Terms of service
Last updated 13 September 2026
The terms for using Flare, written to be read. If anything here is unclear, ask us.
1. These terms
These terms cover the Flare desktop app, flare.tools and the Flare API (together, "Flare"). By using Flare you agree to them. If you use Flare for an organization, you agree on its behalf and confirm you are allowed to.
2. Using Flare
Flare works with the databases you connect to it. For Firebase it needs a Google account with access to the projects you want to work on, and for other databases the details and credentials you give it. Flare acts with those permissions: it can only do what that account or user is allowed to do, and it does it because you asked.
You are responsible for what you do to your projects and databases with Flare, including changes to production data. Flare shows you what an operation will change before it runs and asks you to confirm destructive work on production, but you should keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose.
3. Your account
Keep your Flare account, your Google account and your database credentials secure; anyone who can sign in to them can use Flare as you. Tell us at privacy@flare.tools if you think your account has been misused.
4. Plans and billing
- Flare has a free plan and paid plans (Solo, Team and Business). What each includes, and the limits of the free plan such as how many connections it keeps, are set out on the pricing page.
- Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, through Stripe, and renew automatically until you cancel. Prices exclude VAT, which is added where it applies.
- You can cancel at any time. Monthly plans end at the close of the month you have paid for. Cancelling a yearly plan stops it renewing; the year already paid for is not refunded, unless the law requires it.
- Changes to your plan or number of seats are prorated as Stripe shows you before you confirm.
- If a payment fails, paid features may be paused until it is resolved.
5. Teams
Team owners and admins decide who belongs to a team, what role each person has and what each can do on each environment. Removing someone from a team ends their access to it. The team's owner is responsible for the team's plan and for the people they invite.
6. Sync and team folders
Sync and team folders are optional and end to end encrypted, so we cannot read what they hold and cannot recover it for you. Keep your recovery key safe: if you lose every device and the key, your synced copies are lost.
When you put a connection in a team folder, and especially when you share its password, you give the members of that folder access to that database. Only share credentials you are allowed to share. Someone who leaves a team keeps what their devices already had, so change a shared password when that matters.
7. Acceptable use
Do not use Flare to break the law or anyone's rights, to reach data you are not authorized to reach, to attack or overload Flare or anyone else's systems, or to get around plan limits. Do not copy, resell or reverse engineer Flare, except where the law allows it.
8. Your content
Your Firebase data and the data in your databases are yours, and Flare does not store them. Anything you save with Flare, such as scripts and migrations shared with a team, or the encrypted copies of connections and queries you sync, stays yours; you let us store and show it only so we can provide Flare to you and your team.
9. Flare Assistant
The Assistant suggests queries using an AI model. Suggestions can be wrong. Review what it suggests before you run it.
10. Other services
Flare works with Google and Firebase and with the other databases and services you connect, whose own terms apply to your use of them. Flare is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Google, Firebase or the makers of those databases and services.
11. Changes to Flare
We improve Flare continually and may add, change or remove features. Features marked as in preview may change or stop working as we develop them. We will tell you ahead of any change that takes away something you pay for.
12. No warranty
Flare is provided as it is and as available. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error free or suitable for a particular purpose.
13. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, Flare is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or business, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us for Flare in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
14. Ending your use
You can stop using Flare and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access for anyone who seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
15. Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we update the date at the top of this page, and for changes that matter we tell you before they take effect. Using Flare after that means you accept the new terms.
